The county has a population of around 710,000 and covers an area of 1,874 squared km, making it 32nd in England in terms of size. Due to its proximity to London Buckinghamshire is a popular commuter county, leading to its general affluence. The region is served by an excellent transport network which includes the M1, M25, M4 and M40 motorways and several high speed train networks.

Buckinghamshire has much in the way of historical interest. Although the name is Anglo Saxon, meaning 'the district of Bucca's home', it has much history dating back to the Celtic period.

A large part of the Chiltern Hills, deemed an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, can be found within Buckinghamshire helping to give the county its 'leafy Bucks' image.
